Emergency protective order against Matt Bevin extended
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — An emergency protective order filed against former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin by his adopted son has been extended for six months, according to ABC affiliate WHAS 11 in Louisville.
The extension came Monday during a family court hearing. Under terms of the settlement, Bevin is prohibited from contacting his 18-year-old adopted son, Jonah, and is barred from owning firearms. Officials say Bevin faces arrest if he violates the protective order.
Additionally, the extended protective order mandates that Bevin must turn over any information he may have regarding Jonah’s biological parents in Ethiopia. Jonah has expressed a desire to connect with his biological family.
“I do desire to talk to and yeah, I wanna be with my family, but the thing is Matt has the information and I know that he has information because he had texted me those information and deleted it, so I have no further information, but I have to get those things from Matt and we will get those things from Matt,” Jonah stated.
Jonah’s attorneys say they also plan to pursue criminal charges related to his alleged abandonment at a Jamaican facility for troubled youth. The facility has since been closed due to documented cases of abuse and neglect.
