Electrician talks investing in the future of energy and power

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — While central Kentucky may not yet be having power outage issues at the moment, one Lexington electrician says we need to be investing money from the ground up.
He says money cannot just be invested into projects and expect them to work.

Brian Recktenwald is the owner of Electrical Services of the Bluegrass, a company he just started a year ago, when he saw the demand for electricians.

He says it’s no secret there is a labor shortage at the moment and if money is not invested in getting more people to work then nothing is going to get done.

Adding that, labor shortage isn’t just getting people to work it’s more so getting people the necessary tools to succeed in the field.

Recktenwald says he got into the field after attending college for a bit and realized that was not for him.

He says while we are making great progress there is still lots of work to be done.

“We can’t just overnight, you know, move on to less combustible, you know, fuels or energy supplies, there’s multiple factors along the way that create this, for example, EV cars, they’re great and, and I get the impact of it and they’re not burning fuel directly. But until we can actually get our power plants and things of that nature to the same extent, then really you’re still indirectly burning, fossil fuels,” adds Recktenwald.

He says during this time of the year, electricians and those with HVAC work side by side to ensure everything in the household functions as it should.
