EKU Police Issue Safety Alert
Police did not say why the reported victim waited four days to file the report.
The reported on-campus armed robbery happened in the area of the Sullivan Hall smoke shack.
The two reported victims told Police that a man approached them on campus and began a conversation with them.
They said after a few minutes, another man approached them and produced a handgun, pointed it at them and demanded money.
Police said both suspects got away with their money and took off running.
So far, no arrests.
The reported victims described the suspects as:
Suspect #1:
• Male
• Approximately 5’7” tall
• Wearing a Philadelphia Eagles hat
Suspect #2:
• Male
• Approximately 5’7” tall
• Wears his hair in shoulder length dread locks
• Armed with a handgun
Eastern Kentucky University wants to remind its students of some general safety precautions:
• Immediately report suspicious persons loitering around University facilities.
• If you become the victim of a crime, do not try to physically detain or apprehend the criminal. Report the incident immediately to the EKU Police Department at 911 or (859) 622-1111.
• On or off campus, walk/jog/bike in groups of three or more in well-lit and well-traveled areas. After dark on campus, ride the campus shuttle or call (859) 622-1111 for a walking escort.
• Scan the area before you exit or approach your vehicle/building and while you proceed between sites.
• Have your key ready in hand to quickly access the door of your vehicle/building.
• If strangers approach, maintain a distance and be observant. If they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number, if possible.
• Lock doors and windows of your room/building. Do not prop open doors
If anyone has any information they are asked to call the EKU Police.
