EKU Men’s Basketball picked to win ASUN
RICHMOND, Ky. (EKU Athletics) – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team was picked to win the ASUN Conference by College Sports Madness and predicted to earn a No. 14 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament by CBS Sports.
This will be the Colonels’ first season in the ASUN after all 16 EKU athletics teams joined the ASUN Conference on July 1.
College Sports Madness picked Eastern Kentucky as the No. 1 team in the ASUN and No. 88 overall in the nation.
“Coach A.W. Hamilton has brought in plenty of his own talented transfers to help this team make a big splash in their new conference,” College Sports Madness said of the Colonels in its online posting.
College Sports Madness added, “Eastern Kentucky has plenty of depth and more proven talent than any of their conference foes.”
In its bracket predictions for the 2022 NCAA Tournament, CBS Sports projected the 14th seeded Colonels will face No. 3 seed Illinois.
EKU posted a 22-7 record in 2020-21. Hamilton’s squad was ranked as high as No. 12 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 and concluded the season ranked 25th.
The Colonels led the conference and finished eighth in the nation in scoring offense at 82 points per game. Eastern Kentucky also set a new program record for 3-pointers in a game (20) and led the nations in steals (10.3 per game) a year ago. EKU ranked second in the country in turnovers forced per game, second in turnover margin, second in tempo/pace and 10th in 3-pointers made.
