EKU football taps Mark Elder as next head coach

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Sources confirmed late Monday night that EKU football has tabbed Mark Elder to lead the program moving forward.

Elder was most recently at Tennessee under Butch Jones as the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator.

The Case Western Reserve graduate (2000) was at Cincinnati from 2010-12.

Elder coached the tight ends, running backs, safeties and special teams at various times while in Cincy during his three-year stint with the Bearcats.

Before his time with Cincinnati, Elder made stops at Central Michigan, Michigan, Wayne State, Iona, Lehigh and Akron (GA).

Elder’s expected to be formally introduced on Thursday and meet the team Tuesday at 3:30.

Players were sent a text message to dress up and attend a mandatory meeting to meet their new head coach late Monday night.

We’ll have the latest here online and on ABC 36 News throughout the week as the Colonels welcome aboard their new head football coach.
