EKU commencement will impact traffic Friday
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Look for a traffic impact Friday evening in Richmond due to two events going on at Eastern Kentucky University. The school will hold its Spring Commencement on Friday, May 15, 2015. It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Roy Kidd Stadium. Also, comedian Kathy Griffin is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m at the Arts Center.
Officials say the Eastern By-Pass is most likely to have slowed traffic, as the events approach and there are some route changes. Roy and Sue Kidd Way will be closed on the 15th, from the Eastern By-Pass to Van Hoose Drive.
Motorists should be watchful around Exits 90 and 87 off I-75, US 25/421, and KY 52 (Lancaster Road/Irvine Road) as these are these are the main roads that lead to EKU’s event location.

EKU says that, weather permitting, the Commencement ceremony will feature a brief fireworks show and a fly-over by two of their Aviation Program’s aircraft. In the case of poor weather conditions, the event will be moved to the Alumni Coliseum.
Each academic college will also be holding convocations throughout Friday and Saturday, to honor graduates, either in the Center for the Arts or the Alumni Coliseum.
Travelers should keep in mind that congestion will likely return later in the evening, when attendees are heading home.
