Early voting underway in Kentucky; Gov. Andy Beshear participates
Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ)– Early voting began Thursday morning, Gov. Andy Beshear took the time to go out and vote in Frankfort.
Later Thursday afternoon, Gov. Beshear came to Lexington encouraging voters to go out and vote.
“It is absolutely essential that we take advantage of early voting,” said Beshear. “It means shorter lines, it means not having to worry about the weather on election day. It means that no matter what your work hours are, with Thursday, Friday and Saturday open early there is a time that you can get in and you can vote in this set of elections.”
Beshear and his wife Britainy exercised their right Thursday morning.
“Britainy and I got up early and voted in Frankfort,” said Beshear. “The process was quick, it was easy. There was a line, but that made me pretty happy.”
One voter, Katie Dutoit, spoke about why she decided to participate in early voting.
“I’m doing some canvasing for one of the political campaigns and I am going to be out all day on the 7th,” said Dutoit. “So, I thought get it over with early.”
Beshear spoke about why in this election, early voting is so special.
“For the first time in a gubernatorial election, all constitutional offices, we have three days for early in-person voting.”
Just like voting on election day the process is simple.
“It wasn’t difficult, it was the same as voting normally,” said Dutoit. “I went in I gave them my I.D., they scanned it, I got my ballot, I filled it out and then I was out the door.”
Beshear’s final encouragement to voters, “Regardless of who you’re gonna vote for, get out and vote and vote early.”
