DV8 holds event for National Overdose Awareness Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Saturday marked National Overdose Awareness Day and DV8 Kitchen held an event.

The hope of the event to raise awareness about prevention and honor the more than 12 thousand Kentuckians that have lost their lives to overdose.

The event ran from 11 to 3 with activities designed to educate, raise awareness and foster community connections.

There was also live music, Narcan training and over 15 local recovery organizations in attendance.

Rob Perez, with DV8 , spoke about getting to help those in recovery.

“Yesterday, DV8 celebrated it’s 7th anniversary,” said Perez. “And since we’ve opened our doors we’ve lost 12.361 Kentuckians to addiction. We think it’s time for us to recognize that very somber thing and try to figure out what action it’s going to take to eliminate some of those flags next year.”

Outside of it’s building DV8 placed 12,361 purple flags to recognize every Kentucky life lost.
