Dry and warm conditions continue for the Bluegrass
This week’s forecast
Today will feel very similar to yesterday with a mild morning and warm afternoon. Temperatures may be a few degrees warmer today, reaching the low to mid-80s. We’ll stay dry and sunny through the day, and many will be clear overnight. However, there may be increased cloud cover west of I-75 overnight. As a stationary front approaches IL-IN, it will send a wave of energy through western KY. This will cause some isolated pop-up showers overnight and into Thursday. Thursday afternoon, a few of our far western counties may experience some isolated showers. Almost all of us will remain dry, though.
Hazards to keep in mind
With how dry we are and with no measurable rain in the forecast, our drought conditions are not looking to improve. The ground is dry, and humidity is remaining low with many of us seeing near 40-degree dewpoints. Pairing this with our warm temperatures leads to a concern for elevated fire risk. Fires may be able to spread quickly if grass or brush is able to catch on fire. We aren’t seeing any sort of red flag warning with this, as winds are remaining relatively calm. However, still be sure to use caution if you want to burn brush/yard debris or have a bonfire one of these evenings. Check for burn bans before having any kind of outdoor fire. Also, we’re still seeing ragweed allergens at high levels! Continue to take that allergy medication as we head through hay-fever season.
Weekend outlook
High pressure will build on Saturday to our east, pumping in warm air that will help temperatures reach the upper 80s during the day. Good news, though, by the time we reach kickoff for UK football, we should have cooled down a bit to the upper 70s. As the sun sets during the game, we’ll see temperatures drop into the 60s. We’re looking at a calm, quiet night leading us into a mild Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon, we may see temperatures reaching near 90 degrees for some; definitely a hot weekend ahead of us.
