Driver critically injured in wreck that closed US 25E in Knox County

BIMBLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon, critically injuring the car’s driver and temporarily closing a stretch of US 25E in Knox County.

State Police say the preliminary investigation shows that 54-year old Brenda Laws of Barbourville was driving southbound on US 25E around 3:40 p.m., when she struck the rear of a 2013 International tractor-trailer.  The accident happened in the Bimble community near Knox Central High School.

Investigators say Laws was airlifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where she was in critical condition.  State Police say a passenger in her car, Tracy Laws, was taken to Knox General Hospital and later airlifted to another hospital.

Investigators say the truck driver, 48-year old James Sharp of Gray, was treated for minor injuries and released from an area hospital.  State Police say that section of US 25E was closed for nearly two hours while the scene was cleared and the collision reconstructed.  The accident remains under investigation.
