Distracted driving blamed for accident

GREENVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a woman was injured Monday after crashing her car while looking at her cell phone.

Investigators say it happened on KY 601, approximately one mile north of Greenville in Muhlenberg County.

State Police say 28-year old Esther Shemwell, of Greenville, lost control of her 2012 Toyota Corolla while driving south on KY 601.  Investigators say the car left the southbound shoulder of the road, hit a concrete bridge abutment, a tree, and overturned off the road.

She was not wearing a seat belt, according to KSP.

Shemwell was taken to Muhlenberg Community Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
