DEVELOPING: Police: Floyd Ray Cook spotted in Cumberland County
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – An intense manhunt for Floyd Ray Cook, the man accused of firing shots at officers in Tennessee and Kentucky, is now underway in Cumberland County after he was spotted, according to state police.
Authorities say Cook approached somebody in a car near Burkesville and wanted a ride. That person, a member of the public, drove off and called police.
Deputies were immediately dispatched to the area and started searching, according to state police.
During the search, a deputy sheriff spotted Cook and called out to him. Cook ran off into the woods, but the deputy did not follow him because Cook is considered armed and dangerous.
Backup and helicopters were called in to provide backup and a massive search is now underway, state police tell ABC 36 News.
This manhunt happening less than a day after another massive search operation unfolded near Nashville. Two people that are being called Cook’s associates were arrested there. The details of that search are available here.
