Deputies: Man took friend’s car to commit crimes

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man is accused of taking a friend’s car to drive around a Franklin County neighborhood and steal from other vehicles.

Deputies responded to reports of multiple thefts in the Duckers neighborhood on June 15.

One of the victims had an iPhone 7 stolen from his van. The victim was able to use the tracking device to isolate its location to the Prince Hall Village apartments, according to deputies.

Deputies went to the apartments and found a man slumped over the steering wheel of a car in the parking lot. They say there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car and deputies say they could see several of the items reported stolen in plain sight, including the stolen iPhone.

They took the suspect, John Perry, into custody.

Deputies say Perry was staying with friends in Prince Hall Village and took a vehicle belonging to one of the friends to commit the thefts.

The stolen property was returned to the victims and Perry’s case is expected to be presented to the Franklin County Grand Jury on Tuesday.
