Deputies: Man caught breaking into home, held at gunpoint in Bell County

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Deputies say a man was caught breaking into a home in Bell County and was held at gunpoint until they arrived.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a home on Red Hill Swanner Road in Arjay for an active burglary complaint Wednesday at 12:32 p.m.

Deputies say a man went to his mother’s home on Christmas day and found 38-year-old Harold R. Jones, of Arjay, inside a shed at the home.

After arriving, deputies say they found the man holding Jones at gunpoint.

Deputies say they searched Jones and found tools used to break into the home and a small jewelry box that belonged to the homeowner.

Deputies searched the home and say they found the rear window shattered and near the broken window were two suitcases filled with the victim’s property. They say they also found a stolen chest in Jones’ car.

Authorities say Jones denied burglarizing the home, telling them he recently got into a fight with his family and was just trying to get away from them.

Jones was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass and mischief.
