Departure ceremony for troops being deployed to Middle East

FORT KNOX, Ky. (WTVQ)- Kentucky National Guard leadership will join friends and family Saturday to say farewell to approximately 20 members of the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 1103rd Law and Order Detachment who are scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan for the next year.

Based out of Fort Knox, The 1103rd is comprised of Soldiers certified to conduct law enforcement missions, criminal investigations, traffic accident investigations and customs duties.  In the past the 1103rd has also supported missions across the state ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

The unit has mobilized 2 previous times since Sept. 11, to Iraq in 2004 and Afghanistan in 2013.

Following the ceremony, the Soldiers will travel to FT. Bliss, TX for pre-mobilization training where they will prepare for their overseas deployment.

Since Sept. 11, 2001, the Kentucky National Guard has mobilized more than 18,000 Soldiers and Airmen in support of the Global War on Terror.
