Departure ceremony for Kentucky Guardsmen deploying to Middle East

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WTVQ) – On Thursday the Kentucky National Guard will say farewell to the 206th Engineer Battalion.

More than 150 Soldiers will be headed to the US Central Command Area of Operations to conduct construction missions in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Officials say Owensboro-based unit was last deployed in 2006 to Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Since Sept. 11, 2001, the Kentucky National Guard has sent more than 18,000 Soldiers and Airmen in support of the Global War on Terror.
