Death Row Inmate Won’t Get New Trial
A Kentucky inmate will stay on death row despite a potential chance at freedom.
63-year-old David Matthews has been awaiting execution for nearly 20 years and had asked for a retrial.
Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to deny the request.
A new trial could have led to a new sentence and even release based on time already served.
He was put on death row in 1982 after being convicted of murdering his estranged wife and mother-in-law in Louisville.
