Daycare teachers at Bracktown Learning Academy protest over non-payment
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A group of teachers at Bracktown Learning Academy on Newtown Pike refused to work today, claiming they hadn’t been paid this pay period, and that this isn’t the first time this has happened.
Some parents were turned away from the academy this morning because the facility was short-staffed due to the work stoppage.
According to state law, daycares have to meet certain teacher-to-student ratio requirements to operate.
First Baptist Bracktown Pastor C.B. Akins, who is chairman of the school, blamed the delayed payments on a glitch involving a new payroll company. He says there is money in the bank to pay all the employees and that they will be paid.
An employee tells ABC 36, however, that as of 4:00 p.m., her payment had still not been deposited in the bank.
