Damp and mild start to the week ahead of another wintry chance

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Monday! We have a roller coaster of a weather pattern on the way this week. We will start the week damp and mild, with Monday morning rain showers and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s. The rain chances will taper off through the day but skies should remain mostly cloudy to overcast. Late Monday night into Tuesday will usher in another chance of rain, this time a little heavier by Tuesday morning. Rain sticks around early on Tuesday, before beginning to move east through the afternoon. This will allow for colder air to begin to push in from the west.

This colder air will eventually start to turn rain showers over to snow showers by Wednesday morning across eastern Kentucky. This will likely be to the east of I-75, mainly for the mountains of far eastern and southeastern Kentucky. This could result in light accumulation for these areas as well. There will be isolated-to-scattered lighter snow showers moving through the area throughout the day on Wednesday as well. This time central Kentucky will be in the mix, however, these snow showers won’t result in much at all. Wednesday will be much colder as well with temperatures struggling to get out of the low-to-mid 30s.

Wednesday night into Thursday morning will be another very cold morning with temperatures falling into the upper teens for most of the area. Thursday will be the coldest day of the week as well with afternoon highs in the upper 20s. This cold air will remain in place Thursday night into Friday before we begin to rebound a bit by Friday afternoon and into the weekend.

As temperatures climb closer to average by the weekend, we will also be tracking rain chances returning Saturday into Sunday.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
