Daily rain and storm chances expected for the week ahead

Scattered rain and storm chances continue

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – We’re continuing a stretch of very typical mid-July weather across central and eastern Kentucky — and if you’ve got outdoor plans this week, be ready to dodge some pop-up showers and storms.

Monday kicks off the week with more scattered storm chances, especially during the afternoon and early evening. While not everyone will see rain, some heavier downpours are possible where storms do develop. If you’re heading out around lunchtime or during the afternoon, keep an eye on the radar and be prepared for a quick downpour. The air remains thick with humidity, and highs will climb into the upper 80s to near 90°.

We’re not looking at an all-day washout by any means, but storm coverage will increase during the peak heating of the day. Gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall will be the main concerns with any stronger storms. Overnight lows stay warm and muggy, dipping into the low 70s with patchy valley fog possible.

Looking Ahead: More Heat, More Humidity, and More Storms

As we move through the middle of the week, not much changes. Highs will push into the low 90s Tuesday through Thursday, and combined with dew points in the 70s, it’ll feel even hotter. That means heat indices could easily reach the mid to upper 90s, especially in the deeper valleys and urban areas like Lexington.

Scattered thunderstorms will once again flare up each afternoon and evening. These will remain typical “garden variety” summer storms — brief, localized, and capable of producing heavy rain. Winds aloft will remain weak, so storm movement may be slow. That means the potential for localized flooding will increase, especially in areas that see repeated rounds of rain this week.

By late in the week and into the weekend, the pattern stays stagnant, with isolated to scattered storm chances each day and no pattern change in sight. It’s a very familiar setup for July hot, humid, and stormy at times.

Bottom Line:
It’s a classic summertime pattern — hot, humid, and unsettled. Be prepared for daily storm chances, especially during the afternoon and evening. If you’re planning to be outside, make sure you’re staying hydrated and keeping an eye on the radar.
