CSX cuts 101 jobs in Russell
RUSSELL, Ky. (WTVQ) – CSX Corporation informed employees in Russell on Tuesday that it is reducing operations immediately, according to a report in the Daily Independent. According to a CSX spokesperson, 101 union and management employees in the transportation and mechanical departments are affected by the decision. Some yard and all locomotive shop operations will continue without disruption. Engineering employees are not affected by the cuts, according to the published report.
The Russell facility primarily services coal trains that move through central Appalachia. CSX cited diminishing traffic levels and a decrease in CSX coal movements as reasons for the job cuts, according to the Daily Independent. About 430 people are employed at the Russell CSX facility.
