Crews working through bitter cold to clear roads and sidewalks

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Crews have been working around the clock to clear snow and ice from roads around the city.

“I think it was like two degrees when we started here today,” worker Jerry Reynolds said while describing the wind chill.

Reynolds says the work is a lot easier than the past snowstorms we’ve had this year.

“Couldn’t shovel as much because it was so heavy, but you had to break the ice up first and then get the salt down, so yes it was a lot worse,” he said.

First, we experienced ice, now, we’re experiencing fluffy snow.

“Each snow fall is different,” snowplow driver Kenny Stephens said.

Stephens has been behind the wheel of a snowplow every winter for more than 30 years.

“I mean it’s no different than any other year, it’s getting harder as I’m getting older,” he said.

Without people like Jerry and Kenny, travel would be a lot more dangerous when bad weather hits. They ask that we all do our part in keeping them safe as well.

“Stay home right now until crews can get out and do their jobs,” Reynolds said.
