UPDATE: One lane back open on US 460 after rockslide
UPDATE: (01/09/18 10:40 p.m.)
PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- One lane of US 460 is back open after a rockslide closed both lanes Wednesday.
Officials say rocks, mud, and debris fell into the road.
Crews have reopened one lane between mile marker seven and eight.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the road will completely reopen as soon as the hillside stabilizes.
PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A rockslide in Pike County has blocked both lanes of US 460 near the old Millard School.
Both lanes of traffic are currently impassable.
Josh Blackburn, Highway District 12 Maintenance Superintendent, says material is still coming down the hillside.
“The roadway will be blocked until the hillside stabilizes and we don’t have anymore rock, mud, or debris coming down onto the pavement,” said Blackburn.
Blackburn says it might be possible to reopen one lane of traffic later Wednesday.
For now, drivers are asked to seek an alternate route.
Highway workers are hauling debris out of the roadway and will monitor the hillside to make sure those working remain safe.
