Officials: Missing canoer in Nicholas Co. found dead

UPDATE: (06/07/2019) – The search for a Bath County man who went missing while canoeing in Nicholas County is over.

The Nicholas County Coroner’s Office says James Jolly, age 62, was found dead Thursday afternoon.

An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death.

NICHOLAS COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Crews in Nicholas County have been searching the Licking River for a missing Bath County canoer.

Nicholas County Emergency Management says the search is still going and there are cadaver dogs helping search the river Thursday.

Emergency management says the man was fishing with a couple, when the man ended up tying off, but the couple continued to go down the river. When the couple came back, the man’s canoe was flipped over and no sign of the man.

Officials say the man was not wearing a life jacket. They say the have searched the river about a mile in all directions.
