Crews remove confederate John B. Castleman statue in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ/WHAS)- A controversial confederate statue has come down in Louisville.

Crews began taking down the statue of John B. Castleman from Cherokee Triangle early Monday morning.

This comes more than a year after a commission voted to remove it.

Friends of Louisville Public Art appealed the decision to Jefferson Circuit Court.

On Friday, a Jefferson Circuit Court judge ruled the city has the right to remove it.

The statue will be moved to a city storage facility in anticipation of moving to Cave Hill Cemetery, where Castleman is buried.

The city says no decision has been made on what will replace the statue.
