COVID numbers continue to climb, positivity rate closer to 7%

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Statistics for COVID-19 have not slowed down as the positivity rate continues to climb toward 7% and the number of new cases gets closer to 1,000.

The number of counties in the ‘red’ category for high incidence rates went up from 13 to 15.

In the daily report Friday, the state listed 994 new cases. The numbers pushed the total number of cases in the state to 474,444.

The positivity rate rose to 6.97%, a jump from Thursday’s 6.63%, 6.12% on Wednesday, 5.71% on Tuesday and 5.48% on Monday.

Of the new cases, 199 are in people 18 and younger.

The state reported four new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing Kentucky’s total death toll since the pandemic to 7,312.

The state reported 444 people hospitalized, up from 423 on Thursday and 380 Wednesday; 132 in ICU, an increase from Thursday’s 124; and 58 people on a ventilator, back up since 50 on Thursday.
