Couple charged in Winchester double murder face Clark County judge

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ)- A couple arrested in Lexington earlier this month, in relation to the murder of two Winchester teenagers appeared in Clark County court Wednesday morning, and new details were released from the stand.

23-year-old Matthew Carmen and 25-year-old Julia Richardson were in court for their preliminary hearings.

Both are charged in connection to the double murder of two 16-year-olds, Kayla Holland and Adrianna Castro.

The judge ruled there is probable cause for the charges against both Carmen and Richardson.

A detective investigating the case testified Carmen, charged with complicity to commit murder, engaged in a gun fight with three other suspects at the Washington Street Apartments that lead to the two teen’s deaths.

Richardson, who prosecutors say is Carmen’s girlfriend, is charged with tampering with evidence.

She is accused of taking a backpack filled with bullets, clothes and cellphones from the scene of the crime and dumping it in a neighbors backyard.

Carmen and Richardson were arrested days after the murders in Lexington.

Law enforcement say they believe the couple was planning to flee to Ohio.

Four other suspects are also charged in connection to the double murder, all four face complicity to commit murder charges.

These two cases will now be heard by a Clark County grand jury.
