Country singer-songwriter to distribute water in Martin County

INEZ, Ky. (WTVQ) – Country music singer-songwriter Tyler Childers plans to distribute 500 cases of water Saturday afternoon to those in need in Martin County.
The county has been plagued by water quality and distribution problems for years.  Some have referred to the county as Kentucky’s version of Flint, Michigan, with its well-documented water quality crisis.
Childers, who is a Lawrence County-native who later moved to Paintsville, made the water distribution announcement on Facebook.
The water will be distributed beginning at noon this Saturday, December 22, at the Roy F. Collier Community Center, which is located at 1200 Main Street in Inez.
The water will be given out until 1:30 p.m., which will be followed by a meet-and-greet with Childers until 2:30 p.m. and then he’ll give an acoustic performance until 3:00 p.m., according to the schedule posted on Facebook.
The Martin County Fire & Sheriff’s Departments will be on-site to help the flow of distribution. To ensure that the water is first going to those primarily affected from the water crisis, people are asked to bring a water bill and/or ID for proof of residency.
Each vehicle will be allotted two cases of water while supplies last. Any excess after the event will be stored and distributed by the local Fire Department.
Organizers are also working to find ways to get water to those unable to make the event due to health, transportation or distance issues.

For those outside of Martin County wanting to attend the event and performance part of the day, a suggested donation of one case or jug of water per person is suggested.

For those who are unable to make the event but want to make monetary donations, call LeSage Natural Water and purchase cases at $5.80 each and the company will add them to the trucks for delivery on Saturday.
Contact the company at 1-844-4Lesage (453-7243).
