Councilman faces critics after controversial Facebook posts

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Madison County town is divided over photos supposedly posted on Facebook by Berea City Councilman Jerry Little’s wife.

The photo is a meme of a drunk woman face down, surrounded by alcohol bottles with text saying “Kavanaugh accuser arrives for testimony,” Referring to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accuses him of sexual assault in 1982.

Berea’s mayor had to play crowd control at times during Berea’s packed city council meeting.

“I can no longer sit by and allow such misogynistic attitudes prevail on our council and in our community. We are better than this Berea, and we need to hold our elected officials to the highest of standards,” said a woman criticizing Councilman Little.

Others stood in his defense. Some defended his character and asked for forgiveness for him and his wife.

“I will say, it should not have been shared. They would never stand for a woman to be abused or mistreated. Think what you want to, but I know them,” said Berea Councilwoman Cora Jane Wilson.

Councilman Little didn’t want to speak with ABC 36 after the meeting, but did read a statement to the crowd.

“I in no way condone the violence or any mistreatment against woman,” said Little.
