Coroner identifies bodies found in car fire in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Jackson County Coroner’s Office has released the names of two people found in a burned out car just outside of Sand Gap last week.

The victims are identified as 28-year-old Whitney Venable and 35-year-old Joey Marcum. Both are from Sand Gap.

Firefighters were called to Rock Lick Creek Road at around 4 p.m. Thursday to a report of a car fire.

After putting the fire out, they discovered the bodies of Venable and Marcum, burned beyond recognition.

The coroner’s office says their cause of death hasn’t been determined.

Kentucky State Police is investigating but have not said if foul play is suspected.

Venable’s funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday. Marcum’s funeral will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. Both funerals will be at Lakes Funeral Home in McKee.
