Cooler weather continues with spotty showers possible Friday in Kentucky
Cooler temperatures stick around with a few isolated showers possible Friday. Frost risk returns this weekend across Central Kentucky.
Cooler Air Settles In Across the Region
Today started off on a much chillier note compared to the recent stretch of warm weather. Despite plenty of sunshine, temperatures have struggled to climb, topping out in the upper 50s to low 60s this afternoon.
That cooler feel is thanks to high pressure building into the region, bringing dry air, light winds, and a much more comfortable, albeit cooler, spring day.
Quiet Evening Before Clouds Return Overnight
As we head into the evening hours, conditions stay calm with mostly clear skies and light winds continuing.
Overnight, temperatures will dip back into the 40s, making for another chilly start Friday morning. Clouds will begin to increase late tonight as a weak disturbance approaches from the west.
Isolated Showers Possible Friday
Friday won’t be a washout, but you may have to dodge a few light showers, especially during the morning into early afternoon hours.
Moisture with this system is limited, so rainfall will be spotty and generally very light. Many areas, especially farther south and east, may stay completely dry.
Even with a mix of clouds and a few showers around, temperatures will remain on the cool side with afternoon highs only reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees.
Rain Would Be Welcome Amid Ongoing Drought
Even though rain chances are limited, any precipitation would be beneficial.
The latest drought conditions show much of the region now dealing with moderate to severe drought, with some areas slipping into extreme drought. While Friday’s system won’t bring much relief, it’s at least a step in the right direction.
Cool but Quiet Weekend Ahead
Looking ahead to the weekend, conditions improve as high pressure returns.
Saturday will be mostly dry with a mix of sun and clouds, but temperatures will stay below normal with highs in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.
Sunday morning could bring another concern, frost. With clear skies and colder overnight temperatures dipping into the 30s, some areas, especially across the Bluegrass, could see patchy frost. Be sure to protect any sensitive plants.
Sunday afternoon will be a bit milder, with highs returning to the 60s under mostly sunny skies.
Gradual Warm-Up Next Week
By early next week, temperatures will begin to rebound back into the 70s.
Rain chances will also increase slightly as a more active weather pattern develops, bringing occasional opportunities for showers.
