LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! Light overnight rain showers moved through the region ahead of a cold front. This front will bring us a shot of cooler air today and tomorrow ahead of a big weekend warm-up. Eastern Kentucky will see lingering morning showers as the front exits the region. Be alert for damp roads in the mountains that will linger into the mid-morning hours. Temperatures today will struggle to reach the mid-to-upper 60s as skies try to clear out later this afternoon.
Temperatures will be dropping into the mid-to-upper 30s overnight with patchy frost possible in some of the outlying areas. There will also be the chance of river valley fog as well, be mindful of that during your morning commute on Thursday. Cooler air will lingering throughout the day on Thursday. There will be northeasterly winds that will keep our northern Kentucky areas in the low 60s, while southern Kentucky will be climbing into the upper 60s near 70.
A warm front passes on Friday and that will lead to a big weekend warm-up. The warm front passes on Friday could lead to a round of showers and a few storms Friday into Friday night, before clearing out early on Saturday. There will be a few stray chances of showers or storms this weekend but most areas will stay dry. The biggest headline will be the warm-up. Afternoon highs on Saturday will push the upper 70s near 80, while Sunday could feature low-to-mid 80s across the region.
The next system we have our eyes on will sweep through Monday into Tuesday. This will bring us a rain and storm chance, and also may briefly knock our temperatures down. However, we are expected to keep the above average temperatures around through the end of the month of April, into the month of May.
