Cool temperatures continue on Friday ahead of a few light rain chances for Memorial Day weekend
Mostly sunny skies with temperatures only reaching the mid-60s on Friday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – It’s a chilly start this Friday morning with some patchy dense fog in spots, especially across the Bluegrass. You’ll want a jacket early, and honestly, you might keep it handy most of the day. Afternoon temperatures will once again struggle to climb much past the mid-60s—well below average for late May.
Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds today, and we stay quiet weather-wise across central and eastern Kentucky. Winds will be lighter than Thursday, but the cooler-than-normal trend holds.
Looking Ahead to the Weekend
Memorial Day weekend starts off mainly dry, which is good news if you’ve got outdoor plans lined up. Saturday brings continued cool temps—most of us stay in the upper 60s to near 70°—with partly to mostly cloudy skies. There is a small chance for a stray shower to pop up Saturday afternoon, especially in southern or southeastern Kentucky, but most folks will stay dry.
Rain chances begin to increase on Sunday as a low-pressure system in the southern Plains begins to send moisture our way. While we’re not expecting widespread downpours just yet, scattered showers become more likely, especially late in the day and into Sunday night.
Monday into Tuesday: Timing Still Uncertain
The models are still struggling to agree on the timing and track of the rainmaker late in the holiday weekend. That said, recent trends are leaning toward better rain chances holding off until late Monday into Tuesday. If you’re trying to squeeze in a cookout or trip to the lake on Monday, earlier in the day may offer the best window before steadier rain potentially arrives later.
There is also no real warm-up in sight. Highs continue to hover below normal for late May with 60s and low 70s dominating the forecast into next week. Overnight lows remain crisp as well—many of us will dip into the 40s again tonight and Saturday night.
Make sure to keep checking back with the ABC 36 Storm Team through the weekend as we fine-tune the timing of the rain and keep you updated on any forecast changes. Enjoy your weekend and stay weather aware!
