Communities rally to provide heat, supplies in iced-in counties

MENIFEE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Rural Kentucky counties took a hit from the recent ice storm that left many without heat or power.

With the help of the Menifee County Sheriff’s Office the small community rallied around each other to shelter those most vulnerable from the bitter cold.

County officials say 87% of the community lost both at one point due to the recent ice storm.

Thanks to the help of a few Facebook posts by the sheriff’s office, a wave of community members spoke up and offered to donate kerosene heaters and firewood.

Sheriff’s deputies drove the items to people in need.

One donor says he gave what he had for the simple reason of paying it forward.

“That’s just the way I am I like to help people if I can you know because you never know when you might need help,” says Cletis Jones, who donated a kerosene heater.
