Committee Votes To Add E-Cigarettes To Lexington Smoking Ban
On Tuesday the Urban County Council’s General Government Committee voted 8-0 to add e-cigarettes to the city’s indoor smoking ban.
It now moves on to the full Urban County Council for a vote.
Critics of e-cigarettes have said the device’s produce harmful second-hand smoke and that not enough is known about what’s in them since they’re not regulated by the Federal Drug Administration.
Supporters have claimed e-cigarettes don’t pollute the air, can actually help people quit smoking and are a much healthier, safe alternative to cigarettes.
E-cigarette shops were not excluded from the ban.
Other cities that have already included e-cigarettes in their indoor smoking bans include Richmond, Berea, Versailles, Danville, Bardstown, Manchester and Glasgow.
Governor Beshear included e-cigarettes in a ban on smoking on state property.
