Colonels reveal memorial patch for Joey Kraemer
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Eastern Kentucky University football team has revealed the patch the team will wear for the remainder of the year in memory of Joey Kraemer.
Kraemer, who was found dead after a car accident on Tates Creek Road in Madison Co. last Monday, will be honored during My Old Kentucky Home at the Eastern/UK football game Saturday.
Kraemer transferred to EKU after red-shirting as a freshmen last season at the University of Texas at El Paso. EKU football coach Dean Hood described him as a quieter guy on the team, but someone who cared. “He was a guy that we fell in love with right from the beginning, not only as a player but as a person,” says Hood.
The memorial patch isn’t the only meaningful item of clothing on the Colonel’s uniform tomorrow. The team will also be wearing gold shoelaces to raise awareness of childhood cancer in Kentucky. A portion of the money Eastern used to pay for the specialty laces will go to the Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
