Cold and windy Monday with warmer and wetter weather ahead

Cold and blustery Monday

Cold, blustery conditions dominate the Bluegrass region through the day. Afternoon temperatures only reach the 30s, while strong northwest winds gust between 20 and 25 mph. These winds make it feel colder than the thermometer suggests, with wind chills staying in the 20s during the afternoon. Early-morning wind chills start out even colder, in the teens.

A few flurries or brief light snow showers are possible at times, especially in areas exposed to northwest winds. However, drier air moving in will limit coverage, so little accumulation is expected.

Areas to the southeast will see increased snow shower coverage. This has prompted a Winter Weather Advisory for a few southeastern KY counties, as we could see minor impacts to the morning and evening commute.

Skies gradually clear through the night as winds weaken. This allows temperatures to drop quickly, leading to a cold overnight period across the Bluegrass. With calmer winds, wind chills will be less of a factor, but it will still feel winterlike heading into Tuesday morning.

Gradual warm-up begins Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday starts cold, with morning temperatures in the upper teens, but conditions improve as winds turn more southerly. This shift allows temperatures to rebound into the 40s by afternoon. While still slightly below normal, the day feels noticeably better compared to Monday.

Wednesday continues the warming trend, with highs climbing into the 50s. Dry weather holds through most of the day as warmer air flows into the region.

Rain returns late week with soaking potential

A more active pattern develops Wednesday night into Thursday as a low-pressure system moves through the region. Widespread rain is expected, with steady showers lasting much of Thursday. Rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are possible, especially across southern portions of the Bluegrass. While a few thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, severe weather is not the primary concern at this time.

The rain tapers off Thursday evening, followed by drier conditions on Friday. Temperatures remain mild, with highs back in the 50s and increasing sunshine.

Milder weather into the weekend

High pressure shifts east Saturday, allowing even warmer air to move in. Temperatures rise into the 60s, signaling a more springlike feel. Another system may bring low rain chances late in the weekend or early next week, though details remain uncertain.
