Cold air rushes in following severe storms
Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
LEXINGTON, KY (WTVQ): It was a busy morning weather-wise across central and eastern Kentucky. Numerous severe storms rolled through the region just in time to impact the morning commute for many. The strongest wind gust reported across the region was a 61 mph gust reported at the Kentucky Mesonet Site in Harrison County. There were multiple large hail reports, including nearly ping pong ball sized hail reported by Lois Stamper in Winchester.
Good news – the severe threat across the region is OVER. Now our attention turns to the big temperature drop on the way behind a cold front. Lexington started the morning at 70 degrees before the storms moved in, but will drop into the upper 30s and low 40s Wednesday afternoon. Wind chills will drop into low 30s and upper 20s by the early evening hours. This cold will stick around overnight into Thursday morning as well. Thursday morning will start in the mid-20s for most, with some low 20s possible in the valley.
Thursday will be a seasonably chilly day across the region. Temperatures will struggle to reach the mid 40s, around 5 degrees both average. Conditions will be dry on Thursday as high pressure briefly takes over. Rain chances will return on Friday. Heavy rain isn’t expected, but you can expect off and on showers through most of the day.
Temperatures will return to the 60s and low 70s over the weekend ahead of more rain chances next week.
