Coin Flip Decides Grayson City Council Election After Tie

GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) – A coin flip has broken a tie and decided the election for the final spot on the Grayson City Council.

The Daily Independent reports that Thursday’s coin flip resulted in tails and secured the seat for 10-year city council veteran Terry Stamper. He and his opponent, Sudy Walker, had each drawn 496 votes on Election Night. A re-canvass this week confirmed the tally.

Kentucky statute 118.425 allows for a coin flip to break a tie in an election. Walker and Stamper could have requested a recount, but decided against it after learning the additional expense for the county.
