Coach Calipari raising money for furloughed federal workers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari and his wife Ellen continue to help furloughed federal workers in the Lexington area.

According to the Calipari Foundation, they’re assisting more than 400 furloughed federal employees in Fayette County and the Lexington area, giving affected employees a total of $250,000.

But with the shutdown ongoing, Coach Cal says they are trying to raise more.

Coach Cal spoke about his motivation behind the efforts after the Mississippi State game, “When you see the people, they’re all the people I grew up with. They don’t deserve to be getting the brunt of this. Some of them were struggling already, with child issues, health issues, and then this hits them. I don’t think it’s fair.”

Anyone wanting to contribute to the foundation can click HERE to donate or text “GIVE” to 859-955-8173.

Those eligible for the grant should have received an email from REACH with details and an application. If you think you’re eligible and did not receive the email, you can contact REACH at 859-455-8057.
