Cleaning crews disinfect schools that are closed from illnesses

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – There were more than 20 school systems in our area closed on Friday because so many teachers and students are sick.

Six systems have called off school on Monday.

Fleming County closed its six schools on Thursday and Friday from illnesses.

The county’s superintendent says typically attendance is around 96% and by Wednesday afternoon, it was down to 91%. He says health officials say it takes about four to five days to get all the germs out of the building.

The schools have been nearly empty except for the people who are cleaning.

“We are spraying everything; Legs, tables, desks, everything,” said Teresa Mason.

Teresa Mason is the cleaning supervisor. She says it’s a lot of work, but it needs to be done.

“We know we do our best to keep the school up, clean, and sanitary for the kids,” said Mason.

The superintendent says the cleaning crew has been disinfecting since Wednesday afternoon and will do one last sweep through on Saturday before students and staff return on Monday.
