Civil War Reenactment Marks 150 Years For Camp Nelson

Camp Nelson came alive for a very special anniversary, rolling out the cannons for Civil War Days.

Camp Nelson celebrated the 150th anniversary of the enlistment of African Americans into the U.S. Colored Troops. The event lasted all weekend.

Camp Nelson was Kentucky’s largest and one of the nation’s largest centers for African American military enlistment.

That enlistment began on the afternoon of May 23, 1864.
