City settles lawsuit over police chief firing

PARK HILLS, Ky. (AP) — A northern Kentucky city has settled a lawsuit claiming its former police chief was fired because of her gender.

The Kentucky Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1q4BfQ0) reports terms of the settlement call for Amy Schworer to be paid $350,000.

The settlement also ends a federal lawsuit over whether the city’s insurance company covered the claims. Under the agreement approved Sunday by city officials, the insurance company will pay Schworer $200,000 and the city will pay her $150,000.

Schworer, who is now a detective in Erlanger, filed suit after being fired by Mayor Don Catchen.

Jeffrey Mando, an attorney for the city, said the settlement does not admit fault. He said that according to Catchen, Schworer was fired due to "ongoing leadership issues," but a settlement would end the possibly lengthy and expensive case.
