City officials: Two unconfirmed sightings of bears in Jacobson Park

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – City officials say this week they have received two unconfirmed sightings of bears in Jacobson Park.

Susan Straub, a spokeswoman for the city, said state and local officials have been unable to find any tracks or other indications of bears in the park.
Straub says the first reported sighting was near the dog parks on Tuesday. The second alleged sighting was reported in the general area of the park on Wednesday.
Wildlife officials were called to search the area where the bears were sighted.
“We want to make it clear that we’re erring on the side of caution. The wildlife officials in Frankfort said it would be very unlikely to find bears in the park this far out of their home range, especially two bears together and in the winter,” Straub said.
