City Of Lexington To Spend $700,000 On ‘LEXserv’ Billing System
It won’t affect how much people pay, but it will affect how they pay.
Beginning September 1st, people will receive 2 bills.
One from Kentucky-American for water and one from the city for sewer, landfill and water quality fees.
Those charges used to be on one bill from Kentucky-American, but the water company is ending that practice…so the city has to do it.
The new bill will be called "LEXserv."
Mayor Jim Gray says covering this extra expense will be hard on the city.
"These are tough times for cities. And of course I’m upset that Kentucky American has made this decision during these really tough times for our city. But as I said, sometimes you’ve got to try your best to look at the glass half full and you’ve got to make lemonade out of it," says Gray.
The Mayor added that the additional cost for mailing the second bill will be covered by the city, not the customers.
