City of Lexington holds ‘Truck-a-Palooza’

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The city of Lexington held it’s annual ‘Truck-a-Palooza’ on Saturday.

The event began at 10 a.m. and was held at Frederick Douglass High School this year.

With over 20 different city trucks, everyone could come out and sit in the drivers seat and honk the horn.

Drivers were also around to answer any questions and give demonstrations.

“It’s really great, because that means the public gets to come out and see our equipment, see what we do and actually get a better understanding of what we do throughout the city to keep things clean, to keep things fixed and different things like that,” said Lesa Spillman, a Safety Specialist and Trainer for Waste Management.

Officials say the purpose is to show the types of services provided to the city and for people to meet the drivers.

“The drivers really love this event.,” said Senior Program Manager Angela Poe. “The first year we did it, we came out and had a lot of fun, but every year they kind of amp up what they do as far bring for the people they’re engaging with at the tents and things.”

There were also games and entertainment and educational activities.

The event ended at 12 p.m.
