City of Lexington counts homeless population

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A group of volunteers spent Wednesday night canvassing Lexington counting the city’s homeless population.

Around 80 volunteers made up seventeen teams that visited 100 locations looking for homeless people.

In addition to counting, volunteers gave out goodie bags and offered the homeless rides to shelters.

The city’s Cold Weather Plan is in effect through Thursday.  Lextran will offer the homeless free rides to shelters during that period.  Anyone in need of help can dial 2-1-1 or text their zip code to 89-82-11.
