Citizen Soldiers Homecoming In Harrodsburg

There was so much love in Harrodsburg as families embraced their citizen soldiers for the first time in 10 months.

15 members of the Kentucky Army National Guard made up Task Force Summit, a group that ‘fell in’ for the final time in this mission.

While in Afghanistan they helped bring American soldiers and equipment home.  They brought more than 2,000 tons of materials back that’s worth more than $50 million.

The group included Sgt. Blackburn who was excited to see wife Hailey and baby Maci.  Blackburn became a father while he was overseas.

Out of the unit, eight will be awarded the Bronze Star.  Seven are getting Joint-Service Achievement medals.  Five earned the Army Combat Action Medal–that’s only for soldiers who’ve actually seen battle.

The unit wasn’t expected home until next week.  They all say they’re happy to be home for Easter.
