Churchill Downs announcer leaving for New York
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Churchill Downs is losing its new track announcer to the New York Racing Association.
NYRA CEO Chris Kay said Wednesday in New York that Larry Collmus will start calling races on the New York circuit in April during the spring meet at Aqueduct Racetrack. He will announce the Belmont Park spring and fall meets and summer meet at Saratoga Race Course.
Collmus took over as Churchill’s announcer this spring.
Churchill spokesman John Asher says Collmus will remain at the Louisville track during the upcoming September and fall meets.
Asher says Churchill wishes Collmus the best. He says the track has begun its search for a new track announcer for 2015.
NYRA says Collmus will continue his role announcing Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup races for NBC Sports.
