Christmas Store Saves Christmas For Some

For those in need, the Faith and Community Christmas Store is saving Christmas for its 19th year.

It’s something that I’m so grateful for, Cathy Swain said. “Because without it [my family] wouldn’t have Christmas this year."

"For a lot of people, this is their Christmas,” volunteer Laura Babbage said.

With a smile on her face, Swain said, "It’s uplifted the humbug of Christmas this year."

"We have personal shoppers from the community," Babbage explained. “It’s amazing. You actually get to know the shopper."

Heading towards the checkout with her personal shopper Carol Huffman, Swain said, "It’s been fun! She’s an amazing personal shopper. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without her."

"It’s fun to learn about other people and their children and what do they like,” Huffman said. “Being able to find something that brings a smile to her face, that’s great!”

The store is also doing more than just giving gifts. It is also giving the gifts of friendship.

"You get to learn something about each of the shopper’s families, their children, what they’re interested in and what they like,” Babbage said.

Through those friendships, smiles were all around.

"Give back some of that which we have been given, Babbage said.

"That’s the biggest part," Swain said.

"That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?” Huffman asked Swain. “Giving love"

Organizers said the store is still in need of donations, especially bikes and items for boys aged 9-15.

If you have gently used items that you want to donate, take them to Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road through Friday.
